Writing Excuses - 9

 

Homework: Sketch out the events before and after your dead-drop scene from last week and three weeks ago.

Before:

*Our trio of friends have a discussion of symbols in a secret rooftop garden.

Flower color = location, chosen by Emilia the morning of.

Tarot card = the password, chosen by Pearl

Satchel = contains a sealed letter with the message inside, received by Alec from a raven. Satchel goes to a fourth person who should have the password from Pearl. "Kembley is alive"

*We learn the trio are being watched by someone very powerful, and must keep their interactions with a fourth person secret.

*Emilia scouts out the location, settling on a giant blue mural. Same color as the bluebell.

*Pearl meets her friend for tea, casually talks about the tarot cards. Her words are meant to be heard by someone else. She emphasizes the World card.

After:

* Now that Jeffrey has shifted from background character, to secondary character, I would love to see some kind of resolution for the predicament I put him in. I want to see him stand up to Marcus, turn away his deal, and find a way to get a foothold on his own life.

*The bluebell withers faster than usual, hinting at magical interference.

*Pearl receives three towers in a row. Her deck has been infiltrated; with a clear message. She desperately seeks Emilia for a new location.

*Emilia finds a frantic Pearl, but is attending to her nephew, and must bring him along. Without disclosing anything directly. Every word and action matters.

*Alec is being tailed by someone, loses them, checks the satchel to find another message: "you were seen".
