Day 4 - 100 Day Writing Challenge

4 of 100: Write a list of things in 10 minutes that makes an imaginary someone happy.

I love...

  • When I can make it in time for the hot meals they give away next to the park.
  • When someone gifts me a clean pair of woolen socks.
  • When I'm lucky to get the sleeping spot in the tree before George does.
  • Being noticed. I don't think people realize how much it means to me when they see me and smile. It means even more when they stop to talk to me. It reminds me of before.
  • Scoring leftover hotel supplies from across the street. I'm amazed at what people throw out, but thankful when I can brush my teeth or wash my body with clean soap.
  • Finding usable shoes. How can I explain what it means to a man like me? It's the difference between making it through the woods to the next neighborhood or spending an extra day nursing broken feet.
  • Kind people. Helping hands. People who want to help knowing I can give them nothing in return. Just the other day there was a man who cleaned and bandaged a gash on my leg. He's on my list of people I pray for every night.
  • Animals. I've spent a lot of nights with the dogs and cats of the wild. There's a kinship there. The dogs will protect you and provide warmth in exchange for loving pets and scratches. The cats will curl up on parts of you and bring peace to your dreams.
  • Hearing random moments of laughter. It's mostly from the children that race by me without a care in the world. It reminds me of endless summer days when the entire world of possibilities was at your fingertips.
  • When people bring me an extra cup of coffee. There's a lady that I see drop her kids off at school every morning and then she goes across the street to get us both a coffee. I call her the Sunshine Lady and it makes her laugh.
  • Mondays. See above.
